Global Philanthropy & Business Strategy (5 ECTS)

This course introduces students to the basics of philanthropy in a global setting by exploring the functional, decision-oriented areas of management and marketing as they relate to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), nonprofit organizations (NPOs), governmental entities, and for-profit firms that engage in the not-for-profit sector. Students  will gain an idea of how strategic planning works in this sector, how NGOs and NPOs support their mission through strategic philanthropy initiatives, how businesses leverage marketing principles such as brand management to make strategic decisions regarding nonprofit sector engagement, and the role governments play.
The seminar emphasizes interactive group collaboration and additionally plans a visit to an NGO, offering students practical insights into real-world challenges and how such organizations secure funding.

Dieses Modul ist anrechenbar im Mobilitätsfenster des Masterstudiengangs BWL Management and Economics.

Corporate Fraud and Insider Trading: Ethics, Regulation, and Market Implications (5 ECTS)

This course examines corporate fraud and financial misconduct with a central focus on insider trading while also exploring related practices such as options backdating, earnings manipulation, accounting scandals, and misleading disclosures. We begin with landmark corporate fraud cases and analyze how scandals like Enron, WorldCom, and backdating controversies shaped modern corporate governance and securities regulations. Students will study insider trading cases in depth to understand legal boundaries, detection methods, and the ethical dilemmas surrounding managerial opportunism. Special topics include cross-country differences in insider trading law and enforcement, the role of auditors and boards in fraud prevention, and how media and technology shape fraud detection and public perception.
By the end of the course, students will be able to critically evaluate various forms of corporate misconduct and apply analytical frameworks to assess their economic, regulatory, and ethical consequences.
